Getting Started with Acupuncture
Acupuncture originates from the Chinese culture more than 3,000 years ago and is the oldest medicinal system that is actively practiced up to the current day. This holistic system has gradually evolved into the current approach, called Traditional Chinese Medicine (or TCM), and is actually one of four comprehensive treatment strategies. These other modalities fall within the “global” scope of acupuncture and include - herbs and nutrition, exercise and hands-on manipulation, and the warming method of moxibustion (burning of dried mugwort herb). TCM is based on the harmonious theory of Yin and Yang, and uses acupuncture to restore imbalances in the body and treat afflictions.
Acupuncture’s purpose is, by nature of Yin and Yang, intended to restore optimal balance to the natural state of your body. Therefore, it can only support what you want, or are willing, to do in order to help yourself. So give your body the best chance for healing by being honest with yourself and clear on your commitment to your goals.
